Choreographer Zhao Liang is on a quest to find meaning in a fast-paced modern China where to stop to think means falling behind in the rat-race. Faced with potentially ruinous debts, Zhao Liang is tempted by the call of life as a Buddhist monk.
Lead male Qiu Qiu is burdened by the fame of his grandfather, a titan of the Peking Opera who he feels he can never live up to. Qiu Qiu faces a choice of carrying on along the path his ancestors have laid for him or rebelling and forging a completely new one.Lead female Li Nan is a reluctant mother and wife. Can she find artistic room to breathe without breaking up her family?
We take the audience on a search for meaning in modern China, guided by three complex, joyful and charismatic dancers each trying to find their way.

Liping, Dongsheng and Yaqiong were members of a choir of the Miao nationality in a village in Yunnan Province, which was located in an isolated mountain area. A western missionary once came here one hundred years ago to teach singing technique. Villagers worked in loess in daytime and worshipped the God with songs at night. Yaqiong was the leading singer. Dongsheng wanted to be a missionary. Liping was the prettiest girl in the village. The choir was found by local government accidentally, which was called “a living fossil of baroque music". Three protagonists saw different things in the external world and walked on different paths of life.

Ennobled by imperial decree she spent her old days caring for her grandchild and all her nights running a gambling house.

Wang Ruiju, an educated girl came to the village from city 50 years ago and knew Yang Fenglin who was stationed at an island and went home to visit his family here. They finally became a couple. Building up from nothing, they lived a busy and happy life.
Unexpectedly, the village sank since it was close to the coal mine. The environment was damaged and their life became poor again. When Yang Fenglin was hurt by collapsed henhouse, life in the subsidence area began to be changed. But the result was between tears and laughter.

" Nights in Beijing＂ told the stories of 12 people who lived in Beijing. Like other ordinary people, they travelled in the city, lonely wandering, confused, numb, losing themselves in this city in daytime. When noise in daytime disappeared, they proved their wonderful existence in different ways. When night fell , they discharged their ordianry appearance. Someone obtained bright starry sky with scientific algorithm; someone climbed on and explore a highrise building; someone was cooking Japanese cuisine in the kitchen; someone kept waiting for his love in a rock noodle restaurant; someone accompanied the journey of strangers with warm voice. In Beijing, 24 o' clock was no longer a call to go sleeping. Those who slept early would miss so many wonderful things.
